Mac Christensen, Choir President
Mac Christensen, founder of a men’s clothing chain, has served for many years in various Church positions as well as on the boards of directors for businesses and community organizations. Named president in November 2000, he manages the operations, staff, marketing and administrative components of the Choir’s worldwide assignments. He and his wife, Joan, have eight children, 37 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mack Wilberg, Music Director
Mack Wilberg was appointed music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on March 28, 2008. Prior to this appointment, he served as associate music director of the Choir and conductor of the Temple Square Chorale. He was appointed to those positions in May 1999.
As music director, Dr. Wilberg oversees all musical and creative aspects of the Choir, the Orchestra at Temple Square, the Temple Square Chorale and the Bells on Temple Square, including selecting repertoire for concerts, recordings and tours, and providing the creative direction for the weekly Music and the Spoken Word broadcast. He is also involved with selecting and training new Choir members. He, along with the Choir president, Mac Christensen, represents the Choir at public functions.
He is a former Professor of Music at Brigham Young University and is active as a composer, arranger, guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States and abroad. His compositions and arrangements are performed and recorded by choral organizations throughout the world. In addition to the many compositions he has written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, his works have most recently been performed by such artists as Renee Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, the King's Singers, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and narrators Walter Cronkite and Edward Herrmann.
Dr. Wilberg received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Southern California.
He and his wife, Rebecca, are parents of four children.
Lloyd Newell, Announcer for Music and the Spoken Word
Lloyd Newell has been the announcer of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s weekly inspirational broadcast Music and the Spoken Word since 1990. Previously he anchored CNN Headline News in Atlanta, Georgia. As a keynote speaker and corporate trainer, he has spoken to organizations in 45 states and more than a dozen countries. He has authored several books, including The Divine Connection and May Peace Be with You. He received a master’s degree in communications and a doctoral degree in marriage, family, and human development from Brigham Young University, where he is on the faculty. He and his wife, Karmel, are the parents of four children.
