Plans to construct the temple were announced 15 November 1975, Church leaders broke ground 27 May 1978, and Spencer W. Kimball, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1973 to 1985, dedicated the Seattle Washington Temple 17 November 1980. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in western Washington.

The 110,000-square-foot temple’s exterior is reinforced concrete faced with white marble aggregate and cast stone.

Currently, there are more than 20 temples in various stages of construction or have been announced throughout the world.
