The 2024 Church Music Festival, “Come, Lord Jesus,” is November 16, 2024, at 7 p.m. Mountain Standard Time in the Tabernacle at Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
The focus of the festival is to highlight sacred music of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that can inspire faith, teach gospel doctrine, bring joy, offer comfort and foster unity. The 90-minute annual global broadcast will include performances of current hymns and songs, selections from the new hymnbook, submitted music by members, and music from various regions of the world.
Another purpose of the festival is to help members worldwide feel comfortable with diverse music styles by including members from multiple countries representing different cultures, languages, instruments and ensemble types.
The children’s choir and missionary choir from October 2024 general conference and choirs from Institutes of Religion in Northern Utah will perform live. The festival will also include pre-recorded music videos featuring students from Brigham Young University–Hawaii, a Filipino choir singing “I Stand All Amazed” in three languages, and interviews with Tabernacle Choir global participants sharing stories of the origins of some of the new hymns and original songs and their experiences in their native language.
“One thing that is unique about these arrangements and covers of hymns and songs is that they showcase how members make them their own using their unique mix of skills, culture and stylistic approach,” said Katie Bastian, a music manager in the Church’s Priesthood and Family Department. “Bringing different things to the table can have a unifying effect on the audience — that is our hope.”
Recording and sheet music will eventually be published online at Music.ChurchofJesusChrist.org for use at home and church.
Watch the live stream on Broadcast.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, the YouTube inspiration channel, Sacred Music app and Gospel Stream app. The concert will also be recorded for on-demand viewing later on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
