Choir Nominated for Two Grammy Awards

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s latest CD, which has spent the last five weeks in the number one position on the Billboard Classical Album list, has been nominated for two Grammy awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Spirit of the Season, a collection of songs from the choir’s 2006 Christmas concert featuring Norwegian recording artist Sissel and the Orchestra at Temple Square, is nominated for the Best Classical Crossover Album of the Year, as well as Best Engineered Classical Album.

“This is a tribute to everyone who played a part in the recording,” said Craig Jessop, music director for the choir, “from Sissel and the 360-voice choir to the musicians and technical professionals.”

The choir won a Grammy in 1959 for their recording of The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

PBS will be airing Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir: Featuring Sissel in the United States on 19 December and again on Christmas Eve. The concert is also available on DVD.
