President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, closed the morning session of the 195th Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday, April 4, with an invitation to draw closer to the Savior, Jesus Christ.
“Draw near Him by always remembering Him. Seek Him diligently through scripture study. Ask through heartfelt prayer and ponder while waiting for an answer,” he said. More communication with Him will strengthen our bonds with Him and give us assurance that He knows and loves us.
Church President Russell M. Nelson participated from home, and President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, conducted the session in the Conference Center — the building’s 25th year hosting the global event broadcasted in 80 languages around the world.
President Oaks also led the sustaining and releases of General Authorities, Area Seventies and General Officers, including 16 new General Authority Seventies and a new Young Men General Presidency.
As the opening speaker of the morning session, President Jeffrey R. Holland talked about the virtues of children and youth and their pure love for the Jesus Christ. “Is there anything sweeter, more pure or more humble than a child at prayer? It is as if heaven is in the room. God and Christ are so real to them,” said the Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Children demonstrate faith, loyalty, trust, courage and honor, he said, reiterating Christ’s teaching that “whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:2-4).

Johnson shared stories of women in the Bible and spoke about the role of faith in becoming “whole.” “Through our faith in Jesus Christ, we can seek to be spiritually whole while we wait and hope for physical and emotional healing,” she said.
Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles talked about his “front-row seat to the Lord ‘hastening His work’” through “unprecedented” temple building, missionary work and Church education. “I recognize that in the midst of the good news of the gospel, there are those who struggle, who have faith challenges, doubts and questions that seem to have no answers,” he said. “Brothers and sisters, Jesus Christ is the answer. Start with Him. Look for His hand in your life. Listen to Him.”
Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke of the rescue of handcart pioneers who were in trouble. Similarly, “the Atonement of Jesus Christ provides the ultimate rescue from the trials we face in this life,” and encouraged listeners to help to rescue others from their challenges, joyfully accept His Atonement, and consistently contemplate His Atonement during the sacrament and at the temple.
Elder Ricardo P. Gimenez, a General Authority Seventy, encouraged Saints to remember the reason behind the traditions, invitations and tasks of the Church and “to link everything we do with our love for the Savior.”
Music was provided by The Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square directed by Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy, and accompanied by organists Andrew Unsworth and Richard Elliott. Prayers were given by Elder Kevin S. Hamilton and Elder Jorge F. Zeballos, both General Authority Seventies.
