Employees of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints answered the United Way call again this year, along with thousands of other people, to help make a difference in the lives of many children and young adults.
The United Way of Salt Lake City sponsored the Day of Caring in the adjoining counties of Davis, Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele. This year the event was held 8 September 2010 and started with a 7:30 a.m. kick-off breakfast and live entertainment at a downtown Salt Lake venue. From there volunteers from businesses, nonprofit organizations, utilities, banks and hospitals were dispersed throughout several communities to lend a hand on more than 140 service projects. The projects ranged from painting, clean-up, fix-up, winterization and building 850 feet of fence to playing games and doing arts and crafts with children.
The First Presidency of the Church encourages its employees to contribute to the United Way. "We support the mission of United Way and appreciate how it complements the Church's efforts to provide for those in need."
Bishop H. David Burton of the Church's Presiding Bishopric said United Way agencies provide a wide variety of services that meet needs that do not always fit within the framework provided by tithes and offerings.
More than 450 Church employees participated in the projects scattered throughout the four Wasatch Front counties.
