    Church Participates With Volunteers of America

    The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided a $200,000 challenge grant to the Volunteers of America's Adult Detoxification Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    The money will be used to help remodel the current facility and increase the number of beds from 56 to 66 for people who need a place to stay. Zach Bale, vice president of external affairs for Volunteers of America, Utah, says there are people who are not able to come in to the center because there is no room.

    “No one organization, in any community, can do everything,” said Sharon Eubank, director of Church Humanitarian Services. “We have found that the most successful thing the Church can do is partner with organizations and let people specialize in what they do well. Volunteers of America does a great job in the detox area, and that’s why we support them.”

    The Church has assisted other organizations like Volunteers of America for many years.

    Church resources are also provided to help Volunteers of America with food items such as meat, cheese and vegetables.

    Volunteers of America, Utah offers two residential options for individuals to detoxify from drugs and alcohol: the Adult Detoxification Center and the Center for Women and Children.
