The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released more contemporary hymn arrangements and added new features to its Sacred Music app.
Two new albums and two new playlists now appear in the Music Library on ChurchofJesusChrist.org and in the Sacred Music App, under a new folder titled Music for Everyday Listening.
The releases come on the heels of two digital sacred music releases, one in November 2023 and the other earlier this month.
One of the new albums is the second volume of Songs of Devotion. The other features member-submitted covers of hymns and children’s songs, collected through open submissions throughout the year. In addition to the full album, individual songs will be added monthly as supplementary resources in the Come, Follow Me digital lesson manuals. These songs will soon be available through music streaming platforms Spotify and Apple Music as well.
Playlists are a new feature in the Music Library. The first two curated playlists, Peaceful Moments and Latter-day Vibes, offer hours of listening—whether you're seeking something calm or upbeat—from the Church's existing library of music.
Additionally, the latest update to the Sacred Music App (among other updates in version 2.3) allows users to create and sync their own playlists to their account. This means playlists will remain saved, even if the app is updated or re-installed. In a soon-to-come update, playlists will also cross channels and be available on the online Music Library.
Coming Soon
In future updates, playlists created in the Sacred Music App will be accessible both within the app and online, with the ability to share them between users. These new features will provide exciting opportunities – such as enabling event organizers to share playlists for camps, conferences, or special events; allowing choir directors to share playlists with choir members that include recordings of songs for upcoming performances; or helping Primary leaders share playlists with parents that include all the songs for the children’s sacrament meeting presentation.
The Lord said to Emma Smith, “For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads” (D&C 25:12). Each of these new features will help to unite individuals, families and congregations in heartfelt musical worship.
