Conference Center Will Host Latino Cultural Celebration

SALT LAKE CITY — Tesoros de las Américas (Treasures of the Americas), a multicultural celebration, will be held in the Conference Center on Saturday, 21 October 2006, at 7:30 p.m.

Tesoros de las Américas will feature music, dance and narration to highlight Latin American, Polynesian and Native American cultures. The program will be presented entirely in Spanish, with brief inspirational remarks given by Elder L. Whitney Clayton, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

“We invite everyone to enjoy this artistic and inspirational program,” said Elder Merrill J. Bateman, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy and supervisor of the Utah Salt Lake City, Utah North and Utah South areas of the Church. “Anyone interested in becoming better acquainted with the Church is welcome,” he added.

For those who don’t speak Spanish, a limited number of translation headsets will be available to hear the program in English and Portuguese. Tesoros de las Américas is a Utah area event and will not be broadcast via satellite or transmitted via the Internet.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early. For 90 minutes prior to the program, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., artists and performers representing different Latin American countries will present traditional art, music, songs and dances in the Conference Center entryways, foyers and lobbies to welcome the public.

Attendance is free to the public, but tickets are required. The event is sold out, but those without tickets can join standby lines that will be formed at the north gate of Temple Square on the evening of the performance.

Those attending are encouraged to use TRAX and other public transportation to alleviate traffic congestion and parking problems. Drivers are asked not to park in the residential areas north of the Conference Center.
