Forged Mountain Meadows Massacre Document Found

The Utah State Historical Society posted a letter on its Web site today from Richard E. Turley Jr., assistant Church historian of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, about a document that was purportedly an affidavit related to the Mountain Meadows Massacre. After a thorough investigation, Church historians found the document to be a forgery.

Although not a critical historical document related to the massacre, it was cited in Massacre at Mountain Meadows , a book coauthored by Turley.

More information and Turley's letter can be found on the Utah State Historical Web site.
