Mormon Missionary Is Carried by Faith

Losing both of his legs when he was 6 as a result of being hit by a truck has never stopped Kacey McCallister from pursuing his goals, so the decision to go on a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was an easy one to make.

Elder McCallister, one of 176 Mormon missionaries serving throughout southern Arizona, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, will complete his two-year volunteer service in December 2007. He admits the service is physically and spiritually demanding, especially when he has to move himself around by wheelchair or scooting.

"There is no reason to let anything stop me," Elder McCallister told the Arizonia Daily Star last year.

Prior to his mission service, Elder McCallister won second place in the state high school wrestling championship, hiked 50 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail, played on the University of Arizona wheelchair basketball team and completed the Boston Marathon.
