“There is no place for prejudiced thoughts or actions in the community of Saints,” said Elder Ulisses Soares at the conclusion of the Saturday evening session of October 2023 general conference.

Following President Russell M. Nelson’s April 2023 invitation to “lead out in abandoning attitudes and actions of prejudice” is “a vital prerequisite for building the Savior’s kingdom in every nation of the world,” said Elder Soares.

“May we align our hearts and minds with the knowledge and testimony that we are all equal before God, that we are all fully endowed with the same eternal potential and inheritance, ... and value the different attributes and varied gifts we all have.”

Elder Gary B. Sabin, a General Authority Seventy, said living the principles of the gospel can help Latter-day Saints find the true happiness that seems to elude so many in the world.

Opening the Saturday evening session, Elder Sabin said happiness is a result of knowing we are children of a loving Heavenly Father, being kind, keeping an eternal perspective and feeling gratitude. “Our Savior will polish and refine us through the merits of His atoning sacrifice,” he said.

Humility is a mandatory requirement for returning to the presence of God, taught Elder Joni L. Koch, General Authority Seventy. General conference “is a perfect occasion to develop humility and let our strong opinions be swallowed by an even stronger conviction that the Lord does speak through these chosen leaders.”

Sister Tamara W. Runia, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, invited listeners to view family relationships through an eternal lens. “In these last days, perhaps our greatest work will be with our loved ones — because our hope changes the way they see themselves and who they really are.”

The opening prayer was given by Elder Clark G. Gilbert, a General Authority Seventy, and the closing prayer was given by Elder Juan Pablo Villar, a General Authority Seventy. President Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor in the First Presidency, conducted the meeting.

The music was provided by a young single adult choir from Utah County, with Erin Bailey as director and Joseph Peeples as organist.
