RootsTech 2025 Arrives in Lima: Genealogy and Technology Bring Families Together

The biggest family history event strengthens identity and family ties

From the Spanish Newsroom

For the first time in Lima, RootsTech 2025, the world’s largest family discovery event, brought together hundreds of people on a day dedicated to genealogy and technology. This meeting, which took place in Limatambo on March 7 and 8 in one of the meetinghouses owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, offered attendees the opportunity to explore their family history and strengthen ties with their ancestors.

This year’s event focused on the theme “Discover,” highlighting the power of technology to help people find and preserve their family history.

Genealogy: a Bridge Between Generations

Genealogy allows families to remember those who have left, honor their legacy and better understand their own identity. Through the use of modern tools, RootsTech has revolutionized the way people connect with their ancestors.

During the two days of the event, attendees participated in interactive and educational dynamics that facilitated learning about their ancestors. Key activities included:

  • Relatives: A tool that helps find unexpected family connections between attendees.
  • Guided Tree: A space where participants could start their family tree with the help of experts.
  • Meaning of Your Surname: A module exploring the history and origin of participants’ surname.
  • Migration Dynamics: An experience that allowed visitors to track the migratory movements of their ancestors.

More than 100 people attended the event on its first day, including children, young people and older adults, who enjoyed the activities and participated in live dance and singing presentations by service volunteers.

FamilySearch and the Importance of Preserving Family History

RootsTech 2025 was made possible by the effort of FamilySearch, a non-profit organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicated to preserving family history. Thousands of volunteers around the world are working to digitize and facilitate access to historical records, allowing each person to discover their own lineage and keep alive the memory of their ancestors.

Discover the Past to Strengthen the Present

Genealogy not only helps rebuild personal history but also strengthens the family unit by connecting generations over time. Knowing the lives and achievements of those before us, families find inspiration and a sense of belonging.

RootsTech 2025 has left an indelible mark on the people of Lima’s community, providing valuable tools to explore their identity and strengthen ties to their family legacy. The invitation is open for more people to join the experience of discovery and connection to their roots.
