As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world begin their study of the Old Testament, many are discovering a new resource in the Gospel Library designed to support and enrich their learning. Scripture Helps offers historical, cultural, linguistic and doctrinal insights that help readers better understand the Old Testament.

Church members are already seeing its value. “Scripture Helps makes the scriptures accessible,” said Onalee Estrada of South Jordan, Utah. “For me, it takes the fear out of trying to understand the Old Testament.”

Logan Barney of Meridian, Idaho, said, “As someone who loves history, it’s nice to find out more easily the background and historical significance of some of my favorite scriptures.”

Each chapter of Scripture Helps aligns with the 2026 “Come, Follow Me” curriculum for the Old Testament, making it easy for readers to find explanations and prophetic commentary that relate directly to what they are studying. Links to Scripture Helps appear in the “Come, Follow Me” manual as well as in the “Related Content” section of the scriptures in Gospel Library.

In addition to assisting Church members in their personal gospel study, Scripture Helps also plays a role in helping young adults prepare for a newly updated Old Testament Institute course.

Kittel Kittelsen, a religious educator for Seminaries and Institutes of Religion in Oslo, Norway, has already noticed the impact Scripture Helps can have. He observed that Scripture Helps assists in unlocking his students’ potential to become learners “who not only read the scriptures, but who are drawn to study them; who ask inspired questions and find inspired answers; and who come to know Jesus Christ and His glorious gospel more fully.”

This resource, along with other curriculum updates, reflect the Church’s ongoing effort to make scripture study clearer, more accessible, and more spiritually enriching for individuals and families around the world. Members and friends everywhere are invited to explore questions and discover meaningful answers using Scripture Helps.
