This year Latter-day Saints of all ages around the world will be studying the Doctrine and Covenants — in which the Lord invites His followers to “Look unto me in every thought” (Doctrine and Covenants 6:36).
The account on both Facebook and Instagram will feature short videos from Latter-day Saints sharing personal insights from the scriptures they have obtained during their study of “Come, Follow Me,” Insights from the Apostles short videos, and other short videos with teaching tips and ideas about improving gospel learning for individuals, families and teachers.
In a welcome video posted on February 3, Sunday School General President Paul V. Johnson and his counselors, Brother Chad H Webb and Brother Gabriel W. Reid, explained the purpose of the account and their hopes for its impact on gospel teaching and learning in the Church.
“When we were set apart, we were asked to do two things: to help with personal gospel study and also to help with teaching, to help improve the teaching in the home and in other settings,” President Johnson explained.
Brother Webb added that the channel will provide “practical tips and support in your individual study of the gospel, which will help you see the Savior in the scriptures and feel the Holy Ghost and to hear His voice. We also hope to see some support and help with our family study as well as teaching in the Church.”
Brother Reed added, You’ll see faces from members, General Sunday School Advisory Council, and maybe even us. We look forward to learning and teaching together.”
Parents, teachers, and presidencies are invited to use the content from the Gospel Teaching and Learning Teacher social account in teacher councils, teacher councils for parents, and advisor-youth settings as they prepare lessons together.
However, the content is applicable to all members, who have many opportunities to teach others.
As the First Presidency has explained, “Whether or not you have a specific calling to teach, you are a teacher. As a disciple of the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ, you have opportunities to share His light wherever you go — in the home, at church, as you minister to others, and among your friends. To teach the gospel is a sacred trust. It is an essential part of the Lord’s work, and it works best when we do it in His way” (Introduction, “Teaching in the Savior’s Way: For All Who Teach in the Home and in the Church”).
