Tenth Temple in Europe to Open

HELSINKI, Finland — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has completed the construction of a temple in Helsinki, Finland, to become the 10th operating temple in Europe.

For two weeks beginning 21 September 2006, the public is invited to tour the temple. After the public open house, the temple will be dedicated. Once dedicated, only Church members in good standing may enter the sacred building.

Temples differ from the thousands of Church meetinghouses used for Sunday worship. Temples provide places for sacred ceremonies that include instruction about life before mortality, the purposes of this life and the central role of Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of all God's children.

In July 2006, the Finnish newspaper Helsinki Sanomat published two articles about the new temple and its location.

There are approximately 5,000 members of the Church in Finland.
