The Church of Jesus Christ Expands Educational Opportunities for Indigenous Youth in Mexico

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints financially donated to the Fundación Escalera to provide scholarships to Indigenous youth in Mexico. These organizations are working to expand educational opportunities for 350 students in 10 Indigenous communities in the Los Altos region of Chiapas, Mexico.

These financial resources will help cover expenses such as school supplies, transportation, uniforms and meals, allowing students to continue their education and graduate.

In Chiapas, access to education remains a challenge for many Indigenous communities. More than half of the students drop out at the upper secondary level due to financial difficulties.

“We believe that we are all children of God and, as such, should have access to opportunities for development, including quality education. Education provides the tools necessary to build a better future,” said José de Guadalupe Moreno, a regional Church leader present at the donation.

Fundación Escalera has been working in Mexico for more than 20 years, providing financial support to over 85,000 students, primarily of Indigenous origin. Its mission is to create educational opportunities for Indigenous youth in Chiapas.
