The Praia Cape Verde Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be dedicated on Sunday, June 18, 2022, presided by Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Dedication sessions are at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. and will be broadcast to Church meetinghouses throughout the country.

Latter-day Saint youth will gather in a nearby meetinghouse for a devotional on Saturday, June 17, the evening prior to the dedication.

More than 10,000 visitors and dignitaries attended the public open house held May 21 through June 11, 2022.

Cape Verde is an island nation located about 350 miles off the coast of West Africa. It is home to more than 15,000 members of the Church in approximately 40 congregations. About 450,000 people live on Cape Verde Islands.

Set in the capital city of Praia on the island of Santiago, the temple site is east of Avenida Cidade de Lisboa in the Tahiti Cha de Areia neighborhood. The Praia Cape Verde Temple will be the first dedicated temple in the country.

President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple for Cape Verde during the October 2018 general conference. Ground was broken on May 4, 2019, presided by Elder Paul V. Johnson, a General Authority Seventy, who was president of the Church’s Europe Area at the time.
