An open house for the Praia Cape Verde Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be from Saturday, May 21, through Saturday, June 11, 2022 (excluding May 22, May 29 and June 5).
The public is invited and encouraged to tour the temple for free.
Latter-day Saint youth will gather in a nearby Church meetinghouse for a devotional on Saturday, June 17.
The Praia Cape Verde Temple will be dedicated on Sunday, June 18, 2022, presided by Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Cape Verde is an island nation located about 350 miles off the coast of West Africa. It is home to more than 15,000 members of the Church in approximately 40 congregations. About 450,000 people live on Cape Verde Islands.
Set in the capital city of Praia on the island of Santiago, the temple site is east of Avenida Cidade de Lisboa in the Tahiti Cha de Areia neighborhood. The Praia Cape Verde Temple will be the first dedicated temple in the country.
President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple for Cape Verde during the October 2018 general conference. Ground was broken on May 4, 2019, presided by Elder Paul V. Johnson, a General Authority Seventy who was president of the Church’s Europe Area at the time.
