Church Sought Games

Misstatement:

The article refers to " . . . clean-living Mormons who have come to dominate Utah's culture —; and who have spent the past 30 years trying to bring the Winter Olympics to their scenic city."

Fact:

The statement implies that it was the Church that pursued the Olympic games. In fact, the Church remained neutral on the games, until they were awarded to the Salt Lake Olympic Bid Committee. The games belong to the athletes, the city of Salt Lake and all the people of Utah, not the Church.

Style Guide Note:When reporting about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, please use the complete name of the Church in the first reference. For more information on the use of the name of the Church, go to our online Style Guide.
